World Environment Day 2011 - Dedication to Sparrow

The pictures of sparrow found below in sequence are contributed by few of my very talented friends. Its always difficult to capture animals and birds in camera as they keep moving every moment, yet they made efforts to capture, is truly remarkable frames of moments. Thank you guys! You definitely rock as always!!
Amit Semwal aka photographer captured Sparrow around beautiful bunch of flowers.
Sagar Heerani captured that beautiful sparrow in his balcony of his home.
Kartika captured the picture of these lovely little eggs of the sparrow in the nest found on a tree near college area.
Shivangi got the set of hanging artificial sparrows with real feathers bought from the market of course we demand for the real one.
Parker captured a beautiful picture of the winter birds feeding the seeds and grains from a grain-feeder, hanging outside his home.
And last picture capturing an earthen pot filled with water my mom kept in garden for the birds.

FFew days back I went to see the movie Pirates of the Caribbean-4. It was a good movie for a change from the usual- casual movies that we see in India. A movie based on an expedition to search a fountain of youth with a story of mermaid. It was a movie completely like a wonderland to watch and cherish the childhood fascination about magic, adventure and mermaids. Well that’s not all I was fascinated about in the movie. No wonder I was simply delighted to watch the character, Jack Sparrow....Aye...I mean there has to be Captain somewhere between the names! So it was Captain Jack Sparrow with his feathers on his head and shabby look simply kept me captivated in the movie till the end.

When the movie was over, I was still so much into the musing of the movie that was again and again recalling the dialogues and perhaps the stunning scenes of the movie. And suddenly on one thing my mind got its attention captured... in fact it was just one word that is ‘Sparrow’!

I wanted to be bird, a sparrow when I was a kid! Soaring high, floating in waves of air, proud with wide open wings, chirping in chorus, be independent and sit wherever possibly the warm broad shoulders or tiny finger and sing out my heart!

When I was a little girl, my mom used to sometimes ask me to sit outside and fly away the birds that would come to eat the grains, drying up in the sun. I used to have a little stick in my hand and often used to run behind the tiny birds until they left my garden area. But those little sparrows were very naughty. No matter how many times I made they fly away, they would come back and swiftly get a tiny grain in their mini beaks and fly away. Sometimes I noticed them dancing over the grains. It was a usual sight every morning.

My mom used to say, come back home after playing with friends in the evening when you see streets light on and birds flying back their nest. Never thought one day will come or have come when I do comeback home when the street-lights are switched on in the evening but those sparrows are no more around flying back to their nest chirping high for hours in the evening.

On Sunday’s afternoon I used to play with my friends in the room and used to constantly hear the chirping sound of the sparrows. Sometimes those notorious little birds used to suddenly get inside the home through tiny opening of the windows ...trying to get a cosy place to set up their nest inside the house. They used to actively fly here and there. Soon we used to rush to switch off the fans, or they might hurt themselves.

Sparrow, a tiny bird has been like a childhood identity, and right now I feel so nostalgic!
We used to hang around with friends to get a look of the sparrow’s nest and if possible to get a glance of the tiny little eggs of the bird rested on some tree or some tiny bushes found in the garden. A nest which looked quite artistic and good team work involved in the making of it. Quite social birds often found living where human were dwelling.

In Hindi we often call this bird Sparrow as ‘ghar-chidiya’ which literary means ‘house-birds’. Today, we don’t find them often. In fact why am I writing this post is because I cannot recall when the last time did I see those tiny friendly birds? Forget about near home or window or balcony...I have not seen them in my whole area. This is definitely weird and hard to believe this.

Soon I started searching information about the sparrow on internet. And shockingly I found many articles and organisations working together to protect the sparrow. It was then I realised, things are already worst and I did not notice at all. It like the nursery rhyme turned upside done like, ‘mor bhi aaya, kauwa bhi aaya, chuha bhi aaya, bandar bhi aaya par chhun chhun karti aayi naa chidiya, aur naa dal ka dana layi chidiya’

I wondered why the population of sparrows declining so badly. Was it about only the less food and water they got to survive? I’m really not sure about anything, honestly!
Different reports say and give different reasons, none so sure. Some says it is the change in climate conditions responsible. Some says the smoky and polluted cities are to be blamed. Yet some says, it the smoke that car and other vehicles emit from the unleaded fuel. That particular smoke has some chemical in it that kills small worms and other tiny insects. And perhaps the insects are dead before the birds feed them. So a disturbed food-cycle is responsible.

However, I feel for some different reasons through my conscious thought building process. I believe since the sparrow were the birds which often lived around where the human stayed, the birds were very much dependent on the human for their survivals.

When I was a kid, my mom used to give me sometimes grains to feed the birds. I simple loved doing that when I was a kid. I’m sure my generation people must have sure seen some generous acts in our daily living. Sparrows feed and fluttered around the homes and garden to rest. I see there is no more a garden concept prevailing.

My mom used to keep a tiny clay pot filled with water in the garden for the birds. Sometimes for an hour she used to slightly open the garden water-tap in the afternoon so that birds to get a chance to play in water relax their body temperature and drink some water.

Birds used to peck grains in backyards of homes where mom used clean the grains or rice or lentils. Today we find everything neat and tidy from the malls and hence no more loitering of free grains in the balcony every morning food for the birds is over.

I wonder who does all this and more these days for birds. Today birds survive depending on the food found in the garbage. However, how far the food in the garbage is safe for the birds? The foul smell from the garbage hints something bad to all of us, especially for the animals and birds finding quick forage in the garbage full of harmful plastic bags.

The lifestyle of the human has played a very significant role in the declining of the birds. Our changed habits drastically affected the life-cycle of those little birds. They are now on the threatened birds’ list in many parts of the world. March 20th, 2011 was celebrated as the ‘World Sparrow Day’ to promote the awareness about the decline in the sparrow’s population.
A house sparrow, a once common bird found in abundance across the globe needs to be conserved and continuously efforts have to be made to protect birds, which are not anymore so common and have turned into ecology sorrow!

A little we can do, yet it would be so worth and so apt to do ...get a wide open pot and fill it with water, place it outside your home, terrace and garden. Throw and sprinkle hand full of grains and seeds on the ground for the birds to feed in the morning and evening.

So this year 2011 World Environment Day, 5th June...I want to make an effort through this post to promote and spread the awareness needed for the much extinguishing little birds’ sparrow. I support my little sparrow! Do you?!

e-Green - World Environment's Day

On its 38th anniversary of World Environment Day (WED-5th.June), I still it feels as much critical and crucial for the essence this day holds. But I know someone among you will think why I feel just today or this left out single day to care for the environment or our only green planet the Earth.

Perhaps, let me tell you it is not just this day when I raising my voice for certain cause but it just one more humble reminder to halt for a moment and look around the hassle and repulsive ridiculous acts we make.

World Environment day
e-Green @ rachi creations..

Today I stand up for the people, creatures, flora and fauna that have inspired me in my daily delights. Yet, I/We have always ignored them and their Will to be in this pollution-free world with peace.

Of coarse, everyday should be World Environment Day.
~ And everyday we must celebrate this event in that little “e” of earth, ecosystem, environment, ecology, empowerment, energyenact, evergreen, expression in each and every notion of life.
Let’s encourage this “e” thought!

~ Or else we shall be left over with only emulsion, emergency, echo, encounter, earnest, endangered, erode and era of errors with a wide encompassing end.

~ Let’s today we get enlighten and evolve, express and explore, exchange the thoughts, ideas and expose our dirt, for there has been enough evidence of human's culprit minds, filthy behavior and habits only to harm the earth and the environment.

This is a movement to expand and encourage our thoughts and Support the e-Green world!

...lets grow more trees, save energy, follow recycle, reuse & reduce concept for
e-Green world..

Out of Whack

Note: This post is a part of the BlogAdda sponsored by Pringoo contest “Whack!! This Wednesday”!
~ Five things that make me bring my blood to boil which comes with a wacky woe are as follows:-

  • Noise and HonkingNoise and Honking :
Noise is annoying, distracting, and physically harmful for both human and wildlife. There is so much noise everywhere, increasing with the number of vehicles on the road makes me go crazy. People just lose patience and honk even on Traffic light signals. God knows! What is the point in honking when every vehicle is stand still? And moreover when the front vehicle is not moving how the vehicles at back can move…but wild people will honk…! And the moment there is a green signal..they again start honking to rush.
+ The mindless honkers don’t even spare the places like school, colleges, Hospitals without hard honks.
+ Some guys with strange bikes without silencer hang around and honk with loud and strange multi-horns. Many irresponsible people play loudspeakers, burn crackers late nights and early morning, which is just unacceptable!
~ For God sake, I do deserve at least a peaceful sleep...don’t I!

  • Save WaterWastage of Water:
I go to many friends and relatives home where I find the taps in the kitchen and the bathroom are leaking. I brought them into notice…but they just don’t care at all.
+ However, they do not forget to bluff, how much scarcity of water is there in summer and rain shall be late this season!!
+ Wonder, can’t they call a plumber and repair such very basic and small taps, which would actually save million gallons of water.
~ But no! People like to cry over spill milk/ water!

  • Love Girl ChildFemale Fathom :
I recently went to my friend’s home on their new baby girl birth. She said, her family insists to have another child perhaps a baby boy soon, so that their son would bring forward their family name.
~Wonder, why they don’t understand that a little humble child is a child and not a boy or girl!
Surprisingly a well educated and an intellectual friend of mine also agrees with the views of the family and believes having a baby boy is much important than to perceive a female child.
+ Why don’t they celebrate a girl child at the best?
+ Discriminating a girl in terms of respect, freedom, education and other privileges of choices than that a boy rejoice is really demoralizing, inhuman and shame to womanhood!
~ If my parents also thought the same way, I wouldn’t have existed in this world with absolute liberty!

  • cleanLazy Litter:
Some people are born lazy and irresponsible throwing litter here and everywhere though dust-bin is kept at a distance but they ignore it completely. Being in garden, they do find dust-bins but they would never throw the litter inside it.
+ Rather throw where ever possible or amazingly around the dustbin and not inside it.
Perhaps on the other hand there is a high class drama party enjoys in the hall or set picnic at the garden. But that well elite posh-classy-people often forgets the sophistication of lifestyle they pretend to live and tends to throw the rubbish-thrash around.
+ What sort of party are this ?
~ What sort of sophistication people portrays then?

  • Blind faithSheer Superstition:
It is not my part of life...but sure I do get affected every time I hear, see or know about it…yes it is the daily part governed by beliefs and superstitions of every Indian! Blind faith or dark belief under the name of religion, culture and tradition has brought innocent people’s life in danger.
A man killed his wife consulting a black magic priest as a ritual sacrifice. There are others who throw their kids from the heights, beat woman/girls to get some spiritual flash. Insane people beheaded woman as they believed them to be witches.
+ Certain day is not an auspicious day for shaving, washing one's hair or even cutting of one's hair or nails.
~ Wonder how does unhygienic behaviors helps to make a day favorable?
People act simply insane during eclipse; they buried neck-deep the kids in the mud, making them suffer so badly. They really lack in rational thinking and are superstitious to the hilt.
+ Some consider cat crossing the road unlucky…but how the creations of God are unlucky…isn’t it a disgrace to God and perhaps the nature?
~ Some superstitions are turned harmful and yet there are few which have hilarious notes.
~ Wonder, why don’t we consider sin getting and giving bribes or losing the moral or the treat people evil who disrespect the human-kind?

Clueless Leaf - Leaves me Breathless

~ Kindly bear this post Long one but with a Twig/Twist..! Take it as a journey with an ambition to learn, explore and innovate more...relax..open your mind doors and then start reading!
Life is clueless, complicated yet full of colors and choices to make. I don’t believe in any situation has no option or only one option…until you leave hope and surrender the circumstance. Perhaps, all have abundance of options and doors to open and explore the new.

This time I have come across to this post only to share my view and a very strong conviction for life I follow in!

There will be many moment in life when you might just end up questioning self, Who I am and why I chose this job/career/relationship/material? I've completely lost sight of!!
~ Though life privileged you with the choice to make for whatever you gain or lost.
~ Yet just sometimes, being a bit clueless is the biggest hint can give to triumph over new options!

I have found that the options availability are many...and plenty but an adamant behavior, rigid thoughts or conventional society or family pressure results in supporting your stubborn nature. ~Utter confusion strives to limit the options.
~ Perhaps, not every time you have to be conventional at your choices. Now what is unconventional yet willful you choose!

We need to flexible our self a bit more and look around the options. We all know each person have different views and perception of certain things…yet we don’t share our ideas and enhance the up built. (Kindly go through this post to understand different views people have for same thing: Perception Reflection - Part Two)

Oxygen (O2) : Oxygen gas normally is the divalent molecule O2.
Some interesting facts about oxygen(O2) are as follows:

  • All life on earth is based on 5 basic elements: sulfur, nitrogen, hydrogen, carbon, and oxygen. Amongst these, the element that is most abundant is oxygen. Oxygen makes up about 65% of the human body. It is quite evident why it is essential to keep our body oxygenated. Odorless, tasteless, and colorless, oxygen is one of the most important substances without which life would not be able to exist.
  • Oxygen is the sole element that has the capability of combining with practically all other elements in order to form the essential ingredients that are required for building and maintaining our body.
  • For instance: water is made up of oxygen and hydrogen(H2O) ; carbohydrates are made up of oxygen, hydrogen, and carbon; proteins are made up of oxygen, hydrogen, carbon, and nitrogen.
  • The list of crucial roles played by oxygen is quite endless. It is necessary for oxidization, or combustion, and also acts as a preserver, sanitizer, deodorizer, and disinfectant. Our cells are energized by oxygen, which helps them to regenerate. Oxygen regulates all the functions of the body. Our ability to talk, sleep, eat, move, feel, and think are all dependent on the energy that is generated by oxygen. Our body uses oxygen for the metabolism of food and the elimination of waste and toxins via oxidation. Oxygen is used by the brain to process information.

Real FACT: We can go without food for a number of weeks and survive, we can even go without water for 3-7 days, but we cannot survive without oxygen beyond 5 minutes. Oxygen is the third most abundant element found in the sun, and it plays a part in the carbon-nitrogen cycle, the process once thought to give the sun and stars their energy.

Though we inhale mix of gasses, our lungs filters the rich oxygen and exhale the rest of gases. And if we voluntarily stop breathing (i.e. hold our breath) for a long enough amount of time, we would lose consciousness, resulting lack of oxygen to supply to the vital organs of the body and a fallout with a dead brain, declaring death or suicide.

Hence, people must understand the value of Oxygen in our living/ existence.
I have mentioned so many essential facts about the Oxygen O2, so that the people who are not from the specific science background can also learn and understand about the significance of Oxygen, perhaps the Breath of Life.

~ But then why are we suddenly discussing about Oxygen/Science!

Yes back to the main theory I have always believed and propagated is philosophy of OPTIONS OPEN (O2) perhaps, the chemical formula of normal Oxygen.

Without the Options Open implemented in our life…we are dead in our plans and deceased in our happy existence.
Not that life does not offer us second door to open and explore but we often get hocked with our inflexibility and looking for only one closed door with all the odd pretensions and uncertain calculations.
Options Open (O2) is as important and essential as Oxygen into our life, perhaps it is the Breath of Life.
Life is already clueless, so please don’t make it much complicated with comparison charts, unnecessary expectations, forceful acts and pressures. ~ O yes, love to quote from 3Idiots Movie, Life is not a pressure cooker..., perhaps do not cook assumptions for life but let life offer you the best options open. Certainly only you are alone are cooking and diving in stress storm. Adversity is inevitable, stress is optional..!

~ Do not endure stress, fatigue, sleepless nights…nothing can be the worst…more than if you keep continue thinking of something or just nothing...A tiny Headache will take no time to convert into Heart-attack…perhaps a dying of Thought-Attack. So be careful!

Worry for the worry is Waste.
Worry to beat the negativity.
~ Be a warrior.
Choose for the bountiful Ocean of ideas.
And Options Open (O2) for availability to opt.
~ Breathe Oxygen and Clam down!
Be comfortable to the change,
As only constant is the change,
Convey your sense of Confidence.
~ No one is Culprit…do not blame either ME or Yourself,
Relax and take a break from your rehearsal and repetitive rounds,
~ Review the Options Open (O2).
Collect your thoughts use your creativity and courage to choose!
Certainly Life has a lot to offer and rejoice!!

Remember: Certain things are good only when opted best in the right time, apt momentlate decisions may lead to the diluted and irrelevance of the choice made. So choose the best from the available options in a set of time. Late decisions making, looses the charm of experience. Don’t be a loser, breath the Oxygen(O2) and look forward to as many Options Open quickly!

Making priority list is good…yeah I said The Priority-List….make and count as one, two three…just as you would like to say as plan A, plan B or if not than plan C implementation. What best or most matches your needs just select that. Array and assess opportunities, alternate ways, new prospective. Sky is your limit! Fly with new innovative ideas. Be a singular in the plural world! You are definitely a scientist and can discover/invent something worth and new.

Let you shape your world and existence with your own best decisions from choosing the options open from the priority list!

Yeah! The Best is what you choose and sincerely contribute in...the finest can be anything you want or wish to make. Absolutely it is YOU who decide and do the best and leave the rest! All your choices are correct. Just count one, two, three... and all.

~ Life is like a bestseller book. Pick the book, and randomly open any page and start reading. Whatever and whenever you read will be interesting and captivating. All you need it to opt/willing to open the page, read and rejoice.

And someone best said, If you are feeling overwhelmed with your family responsibilities, please get help if you can afford it. Find a sitter for your children, explore options for aging parents, and seek counseling for yourself. In many cases, you have options, but you need to take the time to find them. Make the best use of the options available.

Let’s not fuss so much about the hullabaloo Life…lets pick options that are distinct and yet brings merit in our life and also create a distill difference into other’s life too.

~ Indeed, Life is a collection of moments and choosing from the options-open (O2), gives the life a momentum!

Though philosophies can be only words sometimes..but one cannot ignore the importance of choosing from what life offers to you and what you give back to Life and people around ..and round, Life Cycle / Cirle...Earth..remember..huhh :) Go have a ride on your thoughts!

~ Speak your mind and Share your thought perhaps Ship your Idea! I did mine..how about You..!!
~ Hope reading this post you have somewhat edifies your Life circle.
~ Phew..inhale..exhale..relax!

Recycling and Climate Change

note : BLOGADDA -picked this post as Spicy Saturday Picks
Aristotle said "Change in all things is sweet". But the way these days Climate is changing all around the world it have become the major concern to worry.

We are aware about the global warming, CO2 emission, cutting of trees, disappearing ground-water, dust and gasses passed on to environment from the factories, wild-animals entering the villages because of forest cut-down, Over-population…and so on. But seems very little have the race of human done to protect and save the environment. The disaster is taking place in the form of Climate Change affecting the biodiversity of the planet. If each of us let our simply basic day-to-day acts, a lot could be a help to the cause.

This year, 2009 we have observed recently a sudden severe flip-flop of climate in India. This sudden unnatural climate change was not at all estimated by the weather man. A severe drought in almost all the parts of India and then followed by very heavy rains and floods are the chronological results of Climate Change that takes place all around the world. It is believed that India has witness the worst drought year over the last two decades. Indeed, it’s an irony that on the other hand states like Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra floods set to break 100 year Record in floods.
Let’s take our promise to CHANGE and create our awareness to CONTROL over the Changing Climate.

This post is a way I wanted to contribute my little bit care to the environment in return to its gifts. Here, I’m not going into huge details but I shall prefer to be very straight and crisp to the bunch of points and innovative ideas, which you may like to, adopt and adapt in your life.

  • Oil Plastic Can: I mostly buy my household things in bulk. Hence, always get big plastic cans of oil. When the oil is finished in the can, I wash the can properly and with the heated knife, cut the Oil plastic Can in such a way that can be reused. Look at the below picture! The oil’s Plastic Can is used to keep all the big Spoons and different ladles together. And I am proud to use it.
Plastic Cans RecycledPlastic Cans Recycled

  • Cold-Drink Bottles: We often buy many bottles of cold-drinks and mineral water. When used mostly people throw them. But I cut them and reuse them to keep various things like set of knifes, set of pens, set of combs or for just keeping coins. I also use them to keep certain food items.
Recycle Plastic Bottle

  • Juice Cartoon: The juice cartoon is recycled in such a way that I use them as small box to segregate things to keep in the drawer. Look at the below picture!
Fruit Juice Cartoon

  • Plastic packets: The empty plastic packets of the Rice are cleaned, cut and opened as a sheet and used as the cover-sheet for keeping certain things.
Plastic Packets

  • Grow Plants to save our Planet: Because I don’t have a garden in my home, I make sure to have few plants in pots at home. To plant and care a plant is the greatest satisfaction and serve my urge to contribute to the Nature.

Grow more Plants

  • Switch-Off: I always make sure to switch-off the light and fan before I leave home. And as far as possible try use the natural day sunlight, by keeping the windows wide open.
  • Close tape: I keep my water tape closed while brushing my teeth. Though, I’m bit generous using excess water in the kitchen but I’m sure I shall overcome this habit soon.
  • Shopping Plastic Bags: The plastic bags given by the shopkeeper while shopping are reused as the dustbin bags to throw the wastes.
  • Print Less: You can also try and create paperless habits or prefer to use both sides of the page.
  • Plan Trip: I plan and try to clump my things and trips before going to the market. This helps to conserve the  fuel.
  • Cooking Rules: Avoid keeping the hot things inside the fridge directly. Save the energy by letting cool-down first. Cook food in the pressure-cooker to save fuel. Cut the vegetables into small pieces to cook them quickly. Cook food covered in the vessel.
  • Donate old clothes: When I get my wardrobe old, I give it to needy. Also use few shredded clothes as the kitchen towel or duster. This is a beautiful way to do charity and save precious energy.

NOTE :
In my own little way I have contributed few posts to the environment. The Links are as follows:

Elephants - turning point of the longest trunk

Note: THIS blog is decicated to THE WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY.
"They are a large, funny animal, and they seem to know when they have done something dumb. They convey a sense of knowing how they fit into the world." (J .Poole quoted in The Fate Of The Elephant).

Elephant

Everybody loves to play with water. So as the huge Elephants are also fond of water and enjoy showering by sucking water into their trunks and spraying it all over themselves. Afterwards, they pick up and spray dust in the same manner they did with water. with their trunk. Almost like the elephant's sunscreen the protective coating of dust. Though dirty its cute and effective. Is'nt it..!

Unique Ability: African elephants care for wounded individuals and are unique in that they identify and look after elephant bones.
And something I cannot forget appriciating their contribution in all ways so much to the wildlife and mankind. The best example is that, as much as 80 percent of what elephants consume is returned to the soil as barely digested highly fertile manure.
  • Type: Mammal
  • Diet: Herbivore
  • Average lifespan in the wild: Up to 70 years
  • Size: Height at the shoulder, 8.2 to 13 ft (2.5 to 4 m)
  • Weight: 5,000 to 14,000 lbs (2,268 to 6,350 kg)
  • Group name: Herd
  • Protection status: Threatened

Remember, how (Hrithik Roshan) in the movie Jodha-Akbar, Akbar had experience powerful wrestling with elephants. This was one of the scene that I liked inspite of the special effects present. I wondered how important Elephants have been ever since the ancient times. The largest creature on earth Elephants have added a royalty, a sense of power, and strenght all past decades. The ancient battles rules have provided us with an interesting application of tactics to the War Elephant in an ancient games context. So many wars have been fought and won due to the large number of the elephants in the army. Elephants have been indeed a sense of pride of all eras.

My Story, of this royal creature elephant starts long back in my childhood when I used to study in Baroda, Gujarat where for the first time I saw the elephant at the temple, which was very near to my home. The elephant was brought far away from Ahemdabad on truck for performing the prayer and other temple rituals. That was first time when I read the elephant so closely. Everybody gave the elephant bananas and sugar canes. The elephant was well decorated and taken to the possession through all the streets in the evening. On the other way, I with my friends were following the footsteps of the elephant. Trying to observe the rough dark skin of that huge animal, its thick hard long hairs on the body. We were so excited to see the elephant, that we stayed in the temple even after the prayers were offered. I believe that was the time when I felt so much for that creature and since than its my favourite animal . Yes! I call elephant my favourite animal.

And how can I forget the wonderful times of Baroda, attending the Ganesh Chaturthi, where huge idols of Lord Ganesh were made. Ganesh, the Hindu God of wisdom, has an elephant's head.

Each year these huge idols were different looks given to the idol and this indeed amazed me.Sometimes covered with glass pieces, sometimes with glitters and sometime with small pices of colourful bangles, creativity have no boundation indeed. We waited egarly each year to see the Lord Ganesh idol of our locality with different looks. Artists work so hard and have such an innovative mind to create the idols everytime with different looks and yet so preety with all spirtual essence. Its an experience only to be felt living at the west edges of India, like Gujarat and Maharashatra.

Comming to north-east, in Guwahati, Assam the view of elephant on the streets is very common. The elephant keeper riding on the elephant come door to door to get some food and bless people.

There was also the time when I was in New Delhi, for my IHM industrial training. To reach on time I used to catch the early morning Bus from ITO, I wondered, from where on these busy roads of the Capital have dung of elephant. And one day when I reached before my time luckily saw the elephants shaking their hips on the road moving slowly. These elephants lived down the ITO bridge at the shores of Yamuna river. The picturesque from the bus was amazing to watch elephants crossing the busy roads. It was then I was almost carried away by this huge creature. I wished if I could know more about the elephants and even ride on it...well it seemed then almost a dream to fulfill some point of my life.

Completing my college in Guwahati, I came Gwalior, Madhaya Pradesh doing MBA at IITTM. I made many friends here, some good and some best. Among them, few friends often called me DUMBO. Dumbo! Dumboo..!! Ahh...I do understand things but a bit late...Got it...why my friends called me Dumbo..! Well this sometimes did hurt me. But later I stared enjoying this pet name of mine given by my friend. Dumbo, is the Disney animated cute baby elephant character. For his enormous ears, and everyone of them calls him "Dumbo". I love Dumbo! For its innocent, cute, chubby smile that can directly make others smile too, Dumbo name excited me.

Finally it was Aug.2007, when my dream to ride & to get closure to this huge habitat elephant came true. Kerala is the destination were I saw in abundant of the elephants at the Elephant Center. I touched, hugged and holded in my arms. I still remember the name of the elephant was Suneeta on which I had my life's first elephant ride. It was one of the best experience of my life. The elephant was too big and a bit difficult to sit on it, with the wide forum. It took an elegant walk and shook with each step it took creating a bubbly effect in my stomach but something which was simply worth being at such a height touching the branches of the trees. This is what I always wanted to do afterall...!

I consider myself lucky to be blesssed by Luxmi ,Her elephant at Pondicherry temple this April.2008. She was again a delight to watch and feed her with green grass. You can read more about her in my blog on Pondicherry with this link clicking.

Who says elephants are found in one color that is a grey shade? India have elephants so well decorated with rangoli colours and other accesories making the creature look beautiful. The elephants in Rajasthan look so much more colourful and vibrant.

Where as the elephnat in South Indis, Kerala looks more of auspicious looks studded. The polo on the elephants is popular in Rajasthan and nobody should miss it. Also in Kerala, elephant festival is celebrated every year.
India have been popular all around the world for its elephant safari, infac this also inspired the famous tourism company "Thomas Cook" to start the tourism in India with a big bang.

Among the most intricate and painstaking crafts of India is ivory-carving. Presently banned in the effort to preserve elephant population. And please don't ever buy Ivory. Save an elephant and make your money work for them not against them. If you travel to exotic places or even to a shopping mall near you, never buy anything that looks like ivory as it probably is. It can be fake and above all illegal.

"At present the world is losing plant and animal species at a rae between 10 to 1,000 times the natural extinction rate.." This came today in the newspaper. I am shocked as any other next Nature lover. But amazingly with this statement I was surpried to know that elephants have one more species. Bornean Pygmy elephant with are beleived to be the last survivors of Javan elephants which are extincting now.

NOTE:

Above is the picture in which Left top is the African Elephant with large ears, Left bottom is the Asian Elephant and Right side is the picture of the cute small Pygmy elephant.
Pygmy elephant in Sabah proven to be a new subspecies. They are smaller, tamer and more mild tempered compared with other Asian elephants and were discovered in Sabah. Following DNA tests, it has been now confirmed as a new subspecies of Borneo “Pygmy Elephants.” These elephants were a distinct subspecies and had different characteristics from their cousins found on mainland Asia and Sumatra.
It is beleived that these pygmy elephants were isolated about 300,000 years ago from their cousins on mainland Asia and Sumatra. “During that period, these elephants became smaller with relatively larger ears, longer tails and relatively straight tusks giving them a cuter looks"

It is important to highlight the conservation of these pygmy elephants to ensure their survival. And hopefully major steps have been taken by WWF and Panda.org. Do'nt cut down the forest. Its the elephant's home. Think about it!

Reduce your environmental footprint
I support WWF

missing royal tiger - National Park,India

It’s been not long when I wrote an article telling about my story for fascination for tigers and shattering alarm bells ringing in India, “the census of tiger population in India has a decreasing sign...” India had 1827 tigers when Project Tiger was set 35 years ago. The number as per the census figures in 2008 is 1411. How much man has been cruel to tigers and today the census speaks louder than tiger strong roar.

It has been my recent trip, way to (RAJASTHAN) Jaipur from Alwar via Sariska National Park. Sariska Reserves which is now a days more popular for unwelcoming the tigers. Sariska falls in Alwar district. This park is situated only 200 km from Delhi and 107 kms from Jaipur. The Aravali Hills dominate the area with its sharp cliffs and long narrow valleys. The history of Sariska even dates back to the days of epic Mahabharata, when the Pandavas were believed to have taken shelter during their exile. The speciality of the forest is that it looks extremely dry in the summers and becomes dense and lush green after the monsoons.

I was indeed lucky on my way to see Sambar, spotted-deer, lots of monkeys and a huge range of different species of birds . Although thrilled to spot animals, I wondered how unsafe were the animals there, where the heavy vehicle rush every second. And above all its so easy for poachers to enter the forest and create menace with animals and forest resources.

A highway bypass road stretching the mid of Sariska forest have been a real problem for the wild big cats and disturbance for other animals. Our cab calmed our anxiety by informing us that the Sariska-Kalighati-Tehla road on which we were heading shall soon be closed and Alwar-Sariska-Thanagazi Road shall be diverted from Kushalgarh to pass from Talvraksh-Narainpur-Gahtabandrol and connected to Shahpura. This shall relieve the Sariska forest from the unwanted interference of loads of vehicles. He also said that sooner some wild cats shall may be from Ranthombor shall be brought to Sariska for better eco-living in forest. Its the irony of the era that long back to the royal time, Sariska was the prime location for the Maharajas and Kings to hunt the tigers in the forest for leisure..!

“In January 2005, journalist Jay Mazoomdaar (The Indian Express) broke the news that there were no tigers left in Sariska. Thus broke open the Third Tiger Crisis. Soon the Rajasthan Forest Department and the Project Tiger Directorate declared an "emergency tiger census" in Sariska and the Central Bureau of Investigation conducted a probe. After a two month exercise they finally declared that Sariska indeed did not have any tigers left” – Ref. Wikipedia

Find out more about endangered species
I was in a way unlucky that not much time I could spend there to explore some of the enchanting areas and temples present in the thick forest, and hence I plan a next trip to Alwar and Sariska soon. But let the tigers are not unlucky to come and survive at Sariska.

Genuinely, we need to propagate the message through out to save the wild cat, or else there will be a time when our next generation shall only see tigers in pictures, paintings or hear tiger's enchanting stories from us.
Save & Conserve TIGERS.
Go Green.

an encounter with royal tiger - National Parks,India

RachiCreations

“Tiger Tiger. burning bright,
In the forests of the night;
What immortal hand or eye.
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?..”

By :William Blake

TAG TIGER: The big cats with big bright round yellow irises, the claws sharp ready for hunting, their unique stripes on their strong body, which no two tigers have identical stripes and the roar could be heard more than a mile away.
I had my life’s first ever direct interface with the wild-life. Recently I visited “Nagarhole National Park, Karnataka” and “Bannergatta national park, Bangalore”.

A journey started with the stay at “The Kings Sanctuary” just 200 kilometer from Bangalore, situated close to the “Nagarhole National Park”. A wildlife resort which have a perfect blend of traditional India with its stylish décor. It also provides a jeep safaris to the National Park. Nagarhole National park derives its name from the combination of two Kannada words. 'Nagar,' meaning snake, and 'hole,' meaning streams. Nagarhole Park was set up in 1955. It have a large variety of wild species like eleplants, tigers, leopard, gaur (Indian bison), dears etc. Long back it was the prime hunting location for the Maharajas of Mysoor. But recently it is renamed as “Rajiv Gandhi National Park after the late Prime Minister of India”.

Nagarhole National Park is counted among India’s best wildlife parks.Early morning we started to the Jungle safari in the bus. The sanctuary is quite a few kilometers away from the resort. There was a thick green forest and the strange sound of the morning jungle created a buzz of unlimited questions..like “Will it be safe to go?”, “Will I be able to see any animal?”, “What shall be the feeling when I will spot any exclusive species…?” As when I was there in my deep thoughts, the bus was stopped with a sudden strong brakes and somebody echoed…Tiger! Tiger!! Within the micro second everybody was alert and came close to the cab’s seat. A robust bodied TIGER crossing the road. The tiger walked really like a king without bothering about the bus which was just five meters away.

There was enough time for all of us to see the “NATIONAL ANIMAL OF INDIA”, the Tiger. I have seen tigers in the zoo of some circus but to see the tiger roaming around freely has been the most outstanding and memorable experience. Indeed, there is so much of thrill, fear, excitement to spot the tiger. Though many other animals were spotted then, but nothing matched the wonder of watching the tiger.

I reading more to know about the Nagarhole National Park (NNP), came across a story would shatter away all the great experience we had there. The true story of the livelihood of the tribal living in the village close to the NNP. Check the Link.

Tigers are an endangered species due to shrinking habitat and large scale poaching resulting from human-tiger conflict. Their skin is secretly sold as the decorative items in the global market. And many Wildlife Conservation programs and organizations are made and followed to save and conserve them. India poses the largest the population of tigers around 2500. Inspite of the fact that the current estimates put the world population of wild tigers at about 5,000-7,000 only.

One of the interesting fact, I came across my knowledge is that the Tiger is the National Animal of almost six countries including India as follows:

1. Bangladesh
2. India
3. Malaysia
4. Nepal
5. North Korea
6. South Korea

India, have a religious connection with the tiger, as Hindu Goddess Durga, rides on the Tigress. We often call her “Mata Sheravali” in the need or just remembering God.

Similarly even children remember “Shere Khan”, a character fearfully menacing with Mowgli in, The Jungle Book, the Animated story enjoyed in childhood watching on the televisions.

The big cat, Tiger is a strong swimmer and a great runner with the night vision six times better than that of humans, reflects a very special philosophy of life leading with swiftness, strength and acute accuracy.

I was already mesmerizing in the moment of spotting tiger at the Nagarhole National Park. And this continued urge, to see ones again the Tiger, at Bannerghatta National Park is situated 10 km south of IIM-Bangalore. The journey to the park takes nearly half an hour from Bangalore. This hilly surrounding is the home for one of the richest flora and fauna. The 25,000 acre zoological park makes this a major domestic and foreign tourist attraction of Bangalore.

Imagine, the tiger around you, very close as it could even sniff and force you to faint. Yes! this is indeed the real experience of coming across to tiger at this very small yet miraculous Bannergatta National park. The pictures flicks speaks more than what I shall describe or express about the wonderful and enchanting encounter with the Tiger, at Bannergatta National Park.

Royal Bengal King’s roar is still a nightmare for me but haven’t said that I do love “Sher khan”. We all need to protect and conserve animals and even this royal cat which is so much endangered species, for the proper food-cycle and life-cycle on earth for better living..
Live life a king size and let the King of the jungle also live!!
Enjoy Traveling!

Butterfly Park - an emotion of hue

When I think of butterflies, colorful flippy-flip wings, the first thing that comes to mind is probably my childhood.

Watching butterfly for the moment is like an experience. There is so much than initially meets the eye and keep lingering in the mind. Moments of childhood reflects when I see kids running after the butterfly, in the garden.

As a child, butterfly have always provoked my imagination, say its beautiful-colorful wings or the way it flutter all around the flowers. Have always Inspired me to look nature as heaven. My favorites have been “Common Jezebel” and “Monarch”, which I found in plenty in my garden. They are in the bright colours, yellow-orange-red, a touch of white and black stimulating the mind, soul and creative thoughts.

Almost my every painting made a space for butterfly, fluttering the colours and creating an aura of happiness.

Butteryly@Astha

Not many things have changed for the kids of today, I still find them fascinated for butterfly like I used to be in my childhood. My very cute little cousin sister ASTHA, often sings the poem in Hindi “titilee udd ke chali phool ne kaha aaja mere pass, titilee boli hatt badmash.”(Butterfly flutters, Flower says to her to come near it, butterfly says to flower you are very naughty.. )

Also she made this blog go colorful with her contribution of small drawing of butterfly, in spite of her hectic schedule of school.

Many inspiring quotes and poems have been written merging the butterfly and life.
And the someone I like..
“We are like butterflies who flutter for a day and think its forever..” CELEBRATE JUST LIVING..
"Just when the Catterpillar thought that the World was over, It became a Beautiful  Butterfly.."

  • Love is like a butterfly,
it goes where it pleases and it pleases wherever it goes.
  • You can chase a butterfly all over the field and never catch it. But if you sit quietly in the grass it will come and sit on your shoulder.
  • How does one become a butterfly?" she asked. "You must want to fly so much that you are willing to give up being a caterpillar.
  • The caterpillar does all the work but the butterfly gets all the publicity.
  • The butterfly counts not months but moments, and has time enough.
  • The fluttering of a butterfly's wings can effect climate changes on the other side of the planet.
  • Everyone is like a butterfly, they start out ugly and awkward and then morph into beautiful graceful butterflies that everyone loves.
  • A caterpillar who seeks to know himself would never become a butterfly
  • I do not know whether I was then a man dreaming I was a butterfly, or whether I am now a butterfly dreaming I am a man
  • When a small child, I thought that success spelled happiness. I was wrong, happiness is like a butterfly which appears and delights us for one brief moment, but soon flits away.
  • I embrace emerging experience.
    I participate in discovery.
    I am a butterfly.
I am not a butterfly collector.
I want the experience of the butterfly.
  • Love is like a butterfly,
hold it too tight, it'll crush,
hold it too loose, it'll fly.

In school, I was thrilled to know "the life cycle of butterfly", wondering how the ugly formation turns up to so beautiful colourful butterfly, after much of struggle and juggle of life.
Now what if are able to see more than 100 species of butterflies under one roof, is’nt it amazing..

Location: 10 Kms from IIM-B, Bannerghatta National Park, Bangalore,KarnatakaComprises: Environmental Study, Research, Museum and Conservation
Establishment: Nov 25, 2006
Main Attraction:  As follows...
  • Nature's most colorful species Butterflies in all its various hues are very well display in the country's first butterfly park .
  • Its of this kind is country’s first and the world’s largest , spread over 7.5 acres in Bannerghatta Biological Park .
  • A butterfly conservatory, museum with an audio-visual room.

Reason to conserve:

Butterflies feed primarily on nectar from flowers. Some also derive nourishment from pollen, tree sap, rotting fruit, dung, and dissolved minerals in wet sand or dirt. Butterflies play an important ecological role as pollinators.

Motive behind Establishment: The main motive behind creating this Biological Park is to promote a greater awareness, appreciation among the public and above all to facilitate the conservation of butterflies.

The butterfly conservatory has a polycarbonate roof and is a 10,000 sq.ft. circular enclosure, inside which the living environment has been carefully designed to support the species of butterflies as well as the plants and shrubs present there.

Amazing effort has been made to create the aura which has a tropical setting including the complete humid climate, with an artificial waterfall and lots of plants and shrubs that attract butterflies. The conservatory leads into the second and third domes, which have a museum that will have dioramas and exhibits. The park also encompasses a butterfly rearing house, plant rearing house and host plant garden.

With so much of minute details given in the design, it surely stands as a victory in the race. Children loves to watch and feel the world of butterflies above all they get to learn a lot instantly they enter the park.

Finally we can learn a lot from this “Butterfly trail”, which will help us to come closer to nature and our lost childhood hues. We need to join hand to conserve all the endangered species including Butterflies, for the better and healthy living on the earth.

Some strange butterfly facts to share with you. Amaze your friends! Enjoy!

  • The word butterfly came from the English word Buttorfleoge. Perhaps because, in mediaeval times, butterflies could be seen hovering around butterchurns or that their excrement is yellowish in colour.
  • Butterflies range in size from a tiny 1/8 inch to a huge almost 12 inches.
The smallest butterfly is the Western Pygmy blue from Africa, which has a half an inch wingspan
  • World's Largest Butterfly
The largest butterfly in the world is the Queen Alexandra's Birdwing.
This huge, poisonous butterfly lives in the rain forests of Papua
    , New Guinea,
and is an endangered species with a wing span of 11 inches.
Males of the species are much smaller than females.
The second-largest butterfly in the world is the Goliath Birdwing and
it lives in Indonesian rainforests and has a wingspan up to 11 inches as well.
  • Butterflies are the second largest group of pollinators.....next to bees.
  • Since butterflies are cold blooded it is necessary for them to warm up their flight muscles. This is done by basking in the sun in order to absorb heat

  • Butterflies can attain a flight speed of up to 45 kph.
  • Monarch butterflies journey from the Great Lakes to the Gulf of Mexico, a distance of about 2,000 miles, and return to the north again in the spring.
  • There are about 24,000 species of butterflies.
  • Butterflies cannot fly if their body temperature is less than 86 degrees.
  • Representations of butterflies are seen in Egyptian frescoes at Thebes, which are 3,500 years old.
  • .
  • Many butterflies can taste with their feet to find out whether the leaf they sit on is good to lay eggs on to be their caterpillars' food or not.
  • Butterflies have their skeletons on the outside of their bodies, called the exoskeleton. This protects the insect and keeps water inside their bodies so they don’t dry out.
  • In India, the families and the numbers of species of butterfly is more than 1163.
  • All butterflies have six legs and feet. In some species such as the monarch, the front pair of legs remains tucked up under the body most of the time, and are difficult to see.
  • that a caterpillar grows to about 27,000 times the size it was when it first emerged from its egg.
  • If a human baby weighed 9 pounds at birth and grew at the same rate as a caterpillar, it would weigh 243,000 pounds when fully grown.

An Irish Blessing for all:

"May the wings of the butterfly kiss the sun. And find your shoulder to light on. To bring you luck, happiness and riches. Today, tomorrow and beyond. "

Respect Green Nature.
