beyond drops of rain

When it rains, it pours. Past some days it has been raining very heavily every day. Yesterday, when I was crossing the road in the heavy rain and stiff traffic holding my umbrella...suddenly some strange random thought struck me. 'Umbrella not only shelters us in rain-showers but also when the sunrays wallop hard on head, it gives a soothing swathe.’
Every umbrella has its own story.
My umbrella too had a story or should I prefer to say my story too had an umbrella.
Under my Umbrella
~ rachi creations.. (c) Under my Umbrella ~

It was commence of the rainy season and my paa brought a beautiful orange-red with polka dots print umbrella for my mother and a blue-floral shade colour rain-coat for me. I was so excited. And often little things make me so happy. I was hardy ten years old then.

Other day after coming from school I had my evening snacks quickly. My mom was doing some work in the inner room. Soon I hastily held the new umbrella in my hands and rushed outside. I shouted, “I will be back soon mom, I’m going out to play...” And before my mom could see me with an umbrella I ran away. Griping a new umbrella into my hands made me feel so happy. It wasn’t raining heavily yet it was nice to shield under the umbrella. I went to my friend’s home and screamed her name outside her home gate. She came running and was excited to see my new umbrella. We together under the umbrella, half-side slight drenched went to a nearby park to play.

This park was ‘My Alice in Wonderland’.
The park had a tiny hill kind of the steep where we often run on the top of it and slide along. This is where I could unfold all my imaginations and fly along the colours of the nature. It was slightly drizzling making the aura more enchanting. We gaze upon the tiny caterpillars move stealthily on the shrubs, sluggy with shell small snails camp under the leaf, watching keenly very tiny eggs of the bird in the nest hidden in the leaves, delicate fine climber holding firm the branches of the tree stems, flowers with rain-droplets rolling over the petals, gape ground soaked and damp, green lemonade colour grass carpeting all around covered with elusive drizzles and little tadpoles, mini fishes, soft leaves floating in the rainwater accumulated near by the road...each and everything in rainbow colours studded beyond sparkling drops of rain was adding to the excitement and curiosity of my imagination skiing in monsoon. I wished if I could hide myself into the leaves.

We took off our shoes and kept my new umbrella near that tiny steep and played in the garden. Running here and there catching butterflies, observing birds unfurling the wings and looking up at distance grey fluffy clouds in sky feeling the cool breeze with open arms made us so delighted.

For hours we played merrily forgetting all. Everything amazed me though every day I saw the same thing, there was always something left to learn, to smile and ponder upon. I was so interested to know the enduring nature and learn more. The park was a perfect combo of imagination and practical life. I wanted to know it possibly all, ‘What created this beautiful rainbow in the sky with so prompt seven colours?’, ‘How long the tiny butterfly lived?’, ‘How the humming bird flew backward and so swiftly too?’ And above all the company of my best friend, who equally participated in being playful, curious to know things and planning mischief on every notion, was so alluring.

It was rainy evening turning dim. We decided to go back home. Again on the side-streets, under the reflection of street-lights, splashing the water, jumping, running, trying to catch each other and kicking each other’s back we reached our home.

As I opened my home’s gate, suddenly I realised I didn’t had my new umbrella in my hands. I got so numb for a moment. Instantly, I ran back to friend’s home and called her. I asked her if she could accompany to go back to the park to get my umbrella which I forgot there. It was almost dark with violet sky and I thought she might deny coming with me. But to my surprise she right away agreed to come with me. I could see she was more nervous than me for the lost umbrella. We ran rapidly back to the park. We went to the steep hill to get my umbrella but it wasn’t there. She asked me confirm if I have kept the umbrella there. But we could not see it. We together searched each and every hook and corner of the park, behind the trees, below the branches of the shrubs, under the bushes, around the big rocks and everywhere. But we could not find the umbrella. Soon she said, “I think someone must have picked up the umbrella from here”. I apprehend with pounding heart-beat that “I lost the new umbrella which belonged to my mom.” I was very upset and very afraid to go back home. It was getting dark and difficult.

On the way back home, my friend backed me with kind words,Everything will be fine...don’t you worry! She asked me not to panic and tell everything to parents.Admit the mistake and confirm them that this won’t happen again in future she affirms. I just wished her simple sympathetic words may turn into blessings!

As I reached home entered the hall, I noticed my father had come back from office and was watching television, sipping the evening tea. My mom was busy in kitchen making some evening snacks. And I was so scared. And shortly standing, slightly hiding behind the big chairs, I started crying in fear.
I wondered, last day only I lost my pencil box and a water-bottle in school and every now and then I lose my pencils and erasers in school...today I lost the umbrella, moreover a new one which above all belonged to my mom, they are going to be very upset and angry on me. A strange cloud of fear and distress encircled me. I was so much in an apprehensive mood, to take up this dreadful incident.

My father noticed my tears in my eyes; he immediately called me near him. He asked me the matter and why was I crying? He soon checked my elbows and knees to see if I’m hurt by falling down while playing. Nothing like that happened I told my father. He kept asking me the matter and I kept weeping badly.
Soon I said in a low tone, “I lost an Umbrella”, in expectation that now I would get the tight slap.
To this he replied, “It’s Okay!”
I thought maybe he didn’t hear anything properly.
I repeated saying, “I lost a new umbrella, which you brought yesterday”.
He again calmly replied, “That’s okay”.
I wasn’t sure why my father was not reacting aggressively or scolding me despite my mistake.
I got confused and still crying, yet ones again grasping a breath and repeated, “Papa, I lost a new umbrella, that umbrella belonged to Mom, that you brought yesterday...she will be very angry on me”

To my surprise my mom suddenly came there bringing a glass of water for me.
My paa took me into his warm arms and made me sit on his lap. This wasn’t planned at all. I believed that my parents would scold me but this wasn’t the case. In a little while, after I gulped some water, my father said,Firstly, we are a family. Everything present in our home belongs to us and not to an individual. If something good happens we will celebrate together and if something bad happens, we shall deal and manage it together...so basically that umbrella belongs to everyone and not just to mom or one person
He continued saying,We as a family with our strength together shall hide an individual weakness...it’s okay if you have lost it...She won’t scold you, don’t you worry..

And very unexpected my mom replied then, Care for things but don’t cry for things, for those things shall never cry for you

Latter to lighten up the air my father said laughing, And moreover until you don’t lose things, how will you get new one...

We together laughed, and soon I comprehend it all, We are one Family of course!

Ever since then I don’t fear to tell the truth or share any thought with my family. I became more cautions when dealing with things though I don’t cry over the Non-living things. Those are luxury to be cared yet not be cried and crippled upon I learnt. The emotions are more essential and crucial to be taken care than sheer shedding a tear over an object.

I heartily appreciated the unconditional love and support my parents have for me! They gave me a freedom, perhaps even a freedom to commit mistakes. They stand firm supporting me and helping me to learn from every bit with a realisation of responsibility.

Further, the kind empathetic words turned into a blessing from my friend had immense power, which still echo. She gave strength to take up things and face the consequences freely and fearlessly. Sometimes, we are afraid and we think this is what life holds as an ultimatum, yet we must strengthen our beliefs than our fears.

One incident and so many lessons...

Yet if I was told all this today...I would have questioned back...
“sheer philosophy, but when it comes to practical life things s**ks hard” or
“a friend plays as a host at great good times yet does not shy away to excuse thyself from the odd moments of your life...” or
“What the hell family support, if you committed the mistake it will be you an individual who will face the music and not other family members will pay for your sins/mistakes!” or
“Do you know how much that costs, perhaps the bill makes me cry?”

I grasped each and every word being a child without asking any question or verification to prove the implementation believing as a universal truth...which even over decades and passing eras...won’t change.

As a mature human, we have this strange tendency to calculate each and everything how, what, why...perhaps couldn’t have implemented some basics to lead a meaningful life.

...under my Umbrella
the Life is unconditionally pouring bountiful bliss
just beyond drops of Rain..
Life is beyond counting and calculating the hum tune of happiness in the moment by adding or subtracting the grammar and vocabulary, we least mean.
It's more in bits of beauty in daily delights and tints of joy in every sight.
It’s more of simple living being with high thoughts and surrounded by the best people around, who loves, cares, supports youunconditionally’!

~ Just like an Umbrella, protects you from unreserved rain and redundant sunrays.

Hope as holding consistent reasoning trait being an intelligent human we don’t calculate and consider as 'Condition' of "being Unconditional" as an excuse to hold on to a relationship and loving emotions for the beings!

NOTE:
  • Hope you enjoyed this journey in monsoon slide of my post!
  • Thanks so much Mahesh for suggesting the beautiful title of this post :))
  • The friend I’m referring in the post is my childhood best friend, ‘Hirna’. We have spent many enthralling moments together in the childhood. During school-days we shifted to different cities thus we were not in touch with each other for more than a decade. Though very recently we got in touch through face-book and just few days back I met her too co-incidentally. Yes! The Destiny definitely holds the best and better than the best people in life. Interestingly we still share the same vibe and amazingly our wavelengths matched after such an expanded time. We chatted and tried to recall as many incidents of our childhood, and this post story is one of them! Thanks to her recollection, we have quite same “Memory like an elephant” :)
  • This post is for you, Hirnu :))

My Childhood Memories - Invincible Incredible Bond

The Colors Magazine’s site contest to “Show your best” choose this post as the Winner for the month June.Enjoy Reading!
This post in dedicated to the Indiblogger contest, "Jiyo(Lively) Life Moments Blogger Contest!"

I thought of many-many hundreds of moments and situations when I truly felt like this moment was an ultimate and nothing better could have been. Hence, I ended up thinking and only thinking...counting but not able to choose any of that one or foremost moment from the series of bliss and care!

~ But few days back something unusual yet appealing happened with me!
Which shall be cherished for some longer than other moments…for it is attached with a long old story something like, "Alice in Wonderland" ...perfectly on personal track, truly an absolute way back but still lingering the urge!!

Consider this post as a long one…but I bet! You won’t find even a bit of the word boring…and will connect with my memories instantly!
~ Vouch my words and memories..and let me begin from the start…
+ I wish to initiate from the specific foundation of the typical era when the computers of the first generation were actually introduced in this world and perhaps in India.
It was around Year 1993 , and if we actually go through the history, we will find that…
This was year, when
  • “Fifty World Wide Web servers are known to exist as of January.”
  • “Microsoft releases Windows NT, Microsoft Office 4.0 and MS-DOS 6.0.”
+ It was time; all about the new bag, new Tiffin box, water-bottle and who possessed best stylish pencil box and a pencil with a delightful tiny eraser on the top of it in addition also raised eyebrows in excitement. It was about that strange smell of the new books. It was all about those crisp pages glued together from the sides. It was about the new fascinating name stickers of Disney and super-heroes. It was all about writing the names in beautiful hand-writing penned down on every first-page of the new note-books…100pages (HW) Home-work Notebook and 250 pages (CW) Class-work Notebooks :))

It was all about the new diary provided by the school. It was about filling the first-page of that diary with personal details and get parent’s signature too.

+ It was about the craft, cuts, colorful papers and sticky gum bottles.
+ It was about lending scissor in the craft class to friends.
+ It was about growing a gram/chana/lentil in the ice-cream cup as a science project. It was about making the "igloos" with the cotton during summer break as project work for (SST), Social Studies Geography subject.
+ It was all about preparing the project-works but submitting on the last date of submission.

And latter Year 1994:
  • “YAHOO is created in April, 1994.”
It was all about the colorful charts..larger than life picture contributing to the "fun-fair stall". It was about watching our seniors dedicating songs for their teachers and classmates at chore. It was about the satin ribbons and blowing balloons. It was also about wearing colorful dresses on this entitled day.
+ It was about the rainbow life, soaked shoes in rain-water and free flowing ecstasy. It was all about the rich multi-colored Raincoats and beautiful vibrant umbrellas shared with best friend.
+ Enjoying an exceptional treatment and humming happy birthday rhymes sung to celebrate the birthday. It was all about the sweets distribution among class-mates and teachers.

Year 1995:
  • “The dot-com boom starts.”
  • “Hotmail is started by Jack Smith and Sabeer Bhatia.”
  • “The first version of Internet Explorer, Microsoft Internet Explorer 1.0 is introduced.”
+ This was the era when we were kids and I was a kid.
+ This was when we were introduced to computers in the school first time.
We had out of the ordinary “25marks” exam and which almost whole class attained to get full marks, interestingly the only exam where the whole class would top with ease!

I must have been in class, three or four specifically.
This was the early childhood stage in the school making the first few close friends too. Crafting some friend-groups with certain outlandish names and being happy to posses around the best-friends.

+ It was all about throwing the school bag on the floor and running straight into the play-ground on friend’s call. Coming back home, doing our home-works and again late night bag-packing from the timetable for the next usual day in school.
+ Polished our shoes only when our mom actually insisted to do, other wise managing with the dirty shoes by rubbing at the back of the legs with the socks.
+ Forgetting to take art-book or color box and standing outside as a punishment. For the one who was least interested in drawings or painting enjoyed this session of standing outside the class and planning another mischief of the day for the class.

+ Sitting in the class room but looking outside the window…a chalk hits the head thrown but the teacher and realizing that a new chapter was all started.

~ It was indeed the best-time of any child!
Though being in that phase, we always dreamt and were so charmed to see and to be grown-up soon. Perhaps, we always used to wonder, why we are in school, why we study and why we have to gives exams to prove!

~ my most memorable childhood memories ~

Year 1996:
  • Google is first developed by Sergey Brin and Larry Page.
+ That was the time, we used to have this strange connection with classmates playing “Statue and over…till the third period…” It was all fun and work all shun.
+ It was the time doing exercises (MPT) on Saturdays morning assembly and wearing White uniform with white canvas shoes.
+ While stretching work-out, we bent and jumped and followed by making fun of each other.
+ It was about being caught to have not worn the badges and belts as the part of the uniform. And there were few as king view's, kept the belts and badges in bag and showed the monitors only when got noticed.
+ All the time we looked each other’s chubby faces and giggled for nothing.
+ The best competition we could ever have been about how a girl or a boy was superior to each other in all terms. It was about the fighting and making up soon with friends. It was all about sharing Secrets and the Tiffin food at the end.

Year. 1997:
  • The dancing baby becomes one of the Internets first fads. The dancing baby is a short 3D animation of a small baby wearing diapers dancing. It was first created by Michael Girard later it on a CompuServe forum as chacha.avi.
  • Intel Pentium II is introduced on May 7, 1997.
  • Bill Gates is now the world’s richest businessman.
+ It was the time we joined the "Scout and Guide" forum.
Attended the Sunday extra classes and learnt making different knots with the single rope. Performing the dumbles and reciting poems. It was when we all were dumb yet aspiring to be expert in all.

+ It was about the chocolates, toffee and cream biscuits packets we relished during the “Independence or Republic Day” celebration.
+ It was when we ran faster than the other in the race to be first on the "Sport’s Day" celebration.
+ It was about preparing the skits and plays for the “General Activities period” in school for enhancing the extra-curriculum activities.
+ It was about singing in group and yet forgetting the lines and dumb staring the faces. It was about the announcements we made on arena as a chance to remove our stage-fear in "Morning-Assemblies".
It all about who’s best hand-writing was in the whole-class. It was about who could learn and recite the poem in front of the entire mass. It was about the fear of report-card day...comparing the marks and grades.
It was about the joy for being published in the "school magazine" and getting the certificates and achievement gold-silver medals.
+ It was about the “School Annual day” celebration, when we all wanted to participate but only few of our mates got selected. It was the excitement of wearing the peacock’s dress and flaunt in the dance of the Annual Day hunt.

It was being known as primary-section of the school.
+ It was about asking permission let in the class, “May I come in Madam..”
+ It was about the charm that we all wanted to be “Duster Monitor” and be known as responsible dude. It was all about comparing the heights and standing in the straight-line. It was about hating to sit in the first bench when every-week the turn came. It was all about running here and there yet control the feet in the corridors when principal noticed. It was about the payment of the fee and getting back the receipt.
+ It was about the "picnic" we together had. More than the destination it was the journey by the bus that made us all so excited which still fascinates.
+ It was about the sound of murmur teacher had while counting heads..it was all about the shouting smirk pitch “Present” that what captured the split second.

Year 1998:
  • Google is founded by Sergey Brin and Larry Page September 7, 1998.
Perhaps, all it became a sweet-memory for me.
It was when my father got transferred to a different land. New place, New school, new teachers around..but I missed the faces which were so familiar and sound. I wanted to go back to my old school. But that was not practically possible. Perhaps, I then understood now that I have moved on to a new place…Practically not possible to be back…I shall prefer to dream and recollect all the memories in my mind.
I knew, I was grasping a trait from an Elephant, for memory was clumping even the tiny tint of details and moments that have influenced my life-moments essentially!
Year 1999:
  • IBM introduces the first Microdrive, the world's physically smallest hard drive capable of storing 170MB.
  • Microsoft releases Internet Explorer 5.0 in March 18, 1999.
As I was growing up, it was time when phones were not that popular.
Mobils was something like a wild idea to have in future…! Hence, there was no short service of messages (SMS). There were only inland letters and envelops enfolding the messages.

~ I could not be in touch with my pals and all my old stuff…But I was moving on with a never dying hope to see them again. Though it was almost next to impossible, I wanted to be friends with them all over again. Now that I was far but my feelings were quite close to heart…I knew this falling in the name of old school shall bring back the entire group in due course of time binding the souls.

Year 2000: (Y2K)
  • Computers continue to work and the world doesn't come to an end on January 1, 2000 as some feared might happen because of the year 2000 bug.
I got busy and busier in new place, new culture and new life amendment..it was then, being friends with new one was not that complex issue. But somehow..I JUST knew that I was still much hooked in the old time…the old rhyme..
So I learnt then that I need to “MOVE ON..move on with the memories
The memories of old school and friends always brought smile on my face…I knew this was the urge for which I shall move on and my spark shall never go in vain. I took my childhood crush curing memories as an inspiration and aspiration...

~ I moved on with a series of miracles and tiny tales within.

...childhood inspiration is the
back-bone of all my strenght and long tales
I write..
For that every smell of flowers I gave to teachers while greeting,
For every scribble I made at the back of my book,
For every line I drew with pencil in the text-book,
And for that every little and large, together the laugh we shared,
Fought and shed tear and then happy again..
For every sharpen tip of the pencil
For every mis-spelling erased with a sweet scent eraser..
For that touch and giggle in lunch break together
For the names studded with pointers on the wooden desk
For the fun, happiness and excitement
For that every tiny detail of mango trees around, notice-boards, walls of old school, swings, sand and play-ground..

+ I shall relive and revive to rebuild the love we shared.
+ I shall revisit the memories and rejoice forever the moments I care!

Year 2005:
  • Wondering and Wishing
Almost everyone of my batch of school days must have more or less completed their graduation. I was doing my MBA and expected them to have made there own glittering history some where.

Yes! Those chubby cheeks were still at the back of my head. I never thought of them (my friends) changing even a bit. I thought those guys must have been still wearing same half-pants and girls playing same old “Statue” game.
I had no wild idea..where they all must have headed..but I in the core of heart only gave a silent prayers for their well-being and happiness.

Year 2006:
  • My heart still pumped harder.
I had this strange rush into my blood-stream. I could not believe that some where my silent prayers were heard in outward appearance of technology.

It was ORKUT for God’s sake!!
+ The ugliest thing I had ever seen.
+ It brought the tears and pain back.
~ The sweet memories we no more sweet but were sweeter.
I found my old school mates…right one after the other in the row of the friend’s-list.
I found their latest pictures and was completely stunned and bowled over their appearance. They were no more so called chubby, but they had this very childhood charisma that I could not resist sending the invitation of joining the friend-list. There were few who remembered me and welcomed my lure. For there were all others whom I remembered but could never seize that courage to start the conversation.

But I was Happy!
In fact more than happy to see them booms at every stage of life. I watched their profile for hours trying to accept their new groomed and grown-up images but it sheer so difficult. Only few looked the same..rest all running being the style and fame :P

But then physical appearance dint made much difference for I knew they all have moved on just like me in their life. But sure I wondered, but how many were still there who have “Moved on with Memories” like I did. It was difficult to judge or conclude for we added each other in friend’s list but could never approach to ask.. “Do u remember….!”

It was like we asked, “How are you…?” following the reply with revert basic question, “I’m fine, how are you?” Our talks started and ended right then, but the irony was we were still friends in the “Friend’s List” of public domain. So sad :(

~ Year 2010:
  • High-tech is the word of these days.
  • World is the Village.
People from domestic region or far distant and over seas connect with so much of ease and clarity.
+ Time have surpassed everything but not the memories of the school.
+ For that little child we still enfold in you, tempting to have fun and alluring mischief we had in school.
Orkut is NOW outdated. The one who wanted to be friends are friends now others all acquaintance with some old connection of common friends.

I have been for some long on Facebook, yet another friend-ship site.
Moreover I’m on Facebook because its hip and people call it cool!
Yep! I thought the same and deliberation to join it only to be familiar with farm-villa and other games.
+ Yes! What a pity indeed!!

But then because I was blogging and had so many blogger-bonds, I made myself more at ease in sharing links and doing all literature stuff, until that day!

It was a day (17th.June,2010) when I thought to share my school class-group picture with them. I wanted my blogger and college friend's to know my inspiration, my back-bone strength of all the long tales I wrote in my blog and other forum.
It’s the enthralling memories of childhood and especially the spellbinding moments of my school that captivates my heart and soul completely everytime ponder upon!
To my utter surprise…I found more than plentiful comments within an hour. And miraculously all the comments were pouring in from the school friends. Everyone saying “Remember that….”… “O! How cute we look together..” and so on…

I almost toppled down the chair looking at the unexpected amusing response for the same people, who were in the friend’s listing always but never spoken!
~ We here were sharing all that we shared together and missed after all.
Indeed we all moved on with the memories. Amazingly, we all had our bit of own story attached with every one of us…and soon other few more friends of the same class, displayed their collection of pictures too. The comments crossed all the limits just like the sensex bar upshots.

+ All of the sudden the nostalgia cloud covered our mind.
+ We all started checking frequently our facebook updates.
+ Only aim to know who more have joined in the discussion board.
~ We all had that common emotion exploding after such a long time.
This was a time where many of us had made new marks in careers and family bonds.
+ Of course, now each one of us was assuring that we are still the same, not been at all changed…and over the years missed so much in between. Can we meet ones again!? Hang around and share with new beginnings, for we are now old enough and can a handle criticism and accept the appreciation with grace. We have grown up, are mature and responsible at the same. Sure every one of us looked more bold, bright, brilliant and blissful in observation! We had well establised our unique traits.

And for the one who never talked and only observed…it was a chance again to share a word, amaze with new skills learnt and accomplishments captured and compliment each other!

It is sure the time to share.
This time we friends are not because of the common friends we have or we support the common group forum...We are here to share the memories, the thoughts, ideas, feeling, emotions and enduring friendship bonds in the name of our common school name and our individuality parade.

Years just ran like a rabbit!
But here we are together NOW to celebrate the NEW!
+ Rejoice and relive again the memories and childhood triumphs.
~ The memories of marvel always travel.

Interestingly, still I know it would not be that effortless or easy to meet up all of them for we all stay different places and have been tied into different time zones but sure I think if got a chance
I won’t hesitate even a bit meeting and hugging them!

~ Yes! This time the hesitation is gone!
I feel like never parted.
I feel like knowing them all so well as always.
I feel like we can start fresh right where we are and knowing each other’s world more.

It's about having one life.
Just one life. It's about making the most of it.
Every craving minute and every slipping second,
it's about living the best,
living with the best people around
the family and the finest friends/buddies
(Gems of GREMS)!
Caring and sharing together.
Indeed this is the moment for which I have been waiting for so long and for it is my most memorable Jiyo Life moment!
~ Everything is finite and so specific moment are so perfect.
~ Yet the memories are infinite and so stunning every time pondered upon.
+ I realized Live dreams are good but Living the Dreams is actually great!
+ Though forever is not quite a rational term but what if this moment could last forever..!

But one thing is certain and absolute;
If you carry your Childhood with YOU, you never Become Older.
_Tom Stoppard, British playwright.

mom and Me - Born Bond

~ Below is the personal love letter for the person who is the most generous, genuine and giving in nature. Here, I dedicate this one post of the blog for the person whose personal pleasures, time and energy of life had been devoted for me. Kindly spare your ten minutes in reading this letter which is really worth!
Born Bond~(C)~Geetali Pradhan

~ "Youth fades, love droops, the leaves of friendship fall;
a Mother's secret hope outlives them all." ~
Oliver Wendell Holmes

Dearest Mommy!

~ When I was in your womb, enjoying indirectly the curd and tomato salad you ate, I knew I was coming to be in a healthy family. I was definitely blessed! You brought me to this earth with so much of pain yet made my life simply painless.

~ When I was six months old, you liked dressing me in a nice bright pink frill frock with matching socks and shoes. You made me look like an angel. Perhaps the only time I looked so cute and a true angel.

~ When I was three years old, you feed me with your own hands the rajma-chawal with lots of ghee into it. I was developing my tastes to the wondrous food you made. You made me surprised every time to make food with same taste, flavors and aroma. Perhaps with love you make and serve the food is beyond the doubt so incredibly delicious and divine just like you are!

~ When I was five, I had my few choices in food and made faces when you cooked green vegetables. But you made sure I ate them to get all the needed vitamins.
Perhaps, then I learnt you were a typical dedicated mother who can run with the bowl of rice behind the kid for hours and still not feel tired.

~ When I was six, I didn’t like to get up in the morning and moreover didn’t like going school. I used to roll into my bed under the bed cover.
But then you used to come to me inside the bed cover, hugged me, cuddled and played with me for next five minutes. Latter slowly whispered into my ears to get up as you had packed my favorite sandwich into the Tiffin-box. And guess what I used to get up soon. Indeed, mom you were elegantly too smart and knew me so well.

~ When I was seven, I participated in the running race in the school sport day event. You came to cheer me but I could not make it that hundred meters race. I was sad and very upset.
But then you said that
same race-concept applies to life too. Don’t you get despair and get carried away in the failure. Though coming last in race you made it last longer as you ran so well till end. You are true sportsman and so live up that spirit.
Perhaps only than I understood, the participation was more important and just winning. And there I learnt my first basic lesson of the life taught my mom!

~ When I was nine and going to school, you came to pick me up. I remember you talking to my class-teacher. I was so scared if teacher told you about my mischief in the classroom and you might just scold me latter. Though you knew, I was a kid and a naughty one too; you took patience to explain me the things that embarrassed you to hear about me. I remember that day when I became class-monitor and you were so happy to see me lead! Perhaps you explanation drives me to my best of the expectation.

~ When I was ten, I enjoyed playing with my friends’ everyday after returning from the school. One day when a boy (my classmate) teased me, I came running to you and you willingly supported me and readily scolded the boy for making me sad. Perhaps latter you did explain me with good grace that fighting and patching up with friends is the part of good friendship. Ever since than you became my best friend.

~ When I was twelve, I was asked by you to participate in all the cultural activities in the school. You made all the efforts to help and guide me for those programs. You wanted me to look the best in the group. Hence you persistently made some extra effort by coming with me to the shop to buy all the craft works and the dress needed in the program. I realized, you were my best cheerleader and wanted me to understand the core behind the perfection. Indeed, I realized then that each minute of perfection was worth the effort you made, when I won the first prize in the poem recitation.

~ When I was fifteen, I was studying in the room during weekend. You came with the (besan) chickpeas flour paste mixed with honey. You dipped your palms in the paste and rubbed gently on my face. I wondered why!
The next bizarre day you came with the curd and cream then rubbed on my head even each hair strands.

Mom, I knew well that I was your sweetheart darling daughter, but you turned me into sweet darling dessert with missing red cheery on my head :P

Till then I used to drink glass of milk twice a day to get proper nutrition but since you thought I was a dessert, you made me apply raw milk on my face too every morning, to get instant glow. Phew!
You called me into the kitchen to teach me how to make dough; I thought you must be kidding though.
You wanted me to learn many more household things. However never took my help and did your things sincerely. Conceivably I was then just fifteen.

Looking at you I understood the basic ethics of being a mom of the daughter child.

~ When I was seventeen, you took me to the shopping. We had lots of fun and ate ice cream. I found your negotiating skills while buying things in the market. No shop keeper could fool you around. You were tough yet charming with your apt market price analysis. In market you never compromised. Though you comprised and settled for the best.

Finally you bought me few salwar-suits and told me that this suits me the best. I hated this very thought of yours, though I understood the apt concern behind your act. Eureka! I was growing up!

Perhaps, I understood, being a mom/woman is not easy living with.. so many quick correct decisions making, further responsibilities and constraint constantly rushing into mind.

~ When I was eighteen, you shared your biggest crush story and asked mine. I had my long list of people and you had only one to still sublime. Astonishingly, I discovered your crush was Amitabh Bachchan!(Click Here) Gimme a break mom!

When it rained you dragged me outside in the rain, we together felt breeze and together enjoyed each raindrop on our skin. I knew then that you were not just my mom, my best friend but also you were as joyous as being a virtual sister of mine.

~ When I was twenty two, I was going for higher studies and moved to the hostel life. You knew I would feel hungry at mid-night so you prepared so many snacks, wrapped safely and kept without my knowledge into my bag. You hugged me and only said take care! You missed me badly but never showed. You pretended to be strong hearted, though you are very soft and sensitive at core.
I know mummy, you have been more geared to understand and focused in making best choices to our personal lives. Hence you have ability to make hard calls when needed yet balance to uphold.

Till now,
~YOU always bought things I LIKED,
~ cooked the food I LIKED,
~ watched the television serial I LIKED and
~ YOU even wore the dress on occasions that I LIKED
~ You devoted all you choices to me. And only a Mothers’ could do so.

~ You made coffees and milk shakes at odd times for making me to study little more a while.
Concentrate to study and don’t you sleep on books, Girl! You said to uplift my mood! And we together giggled. ~ Somehow, you always had strong instincts to know what was behind the closed doors and blocked thoughts :)

~ You prepared snacks and tit-bits for my friends when invited at home.
You welcomed and treated them with the same sweet love and hub of warmth.
You are a true natural nurturant. And ability to connect with everyone comes with ease. Compassionate thought without compare has been your natural traits.

~ When I was giving my exams of studies or personal life, you were the one who was constantly praying for me. I know you prayed God to pass me with good results and you also prayed to pass all my worries and troubles to you. I came out with glorious rainbow colors and all praise goes to you and only You!

~ The green leafy vegetables you cooked that I hated the most in my childhood, today staying far ~when I am twenty six, I tend to ask the same recipes on phone everyday. I often miss the chicken curry you prepared every Sundays.

Though I call it being stylish but miss the oil in my head that you added and massaged to relax me so well. You brush away the tangles from my hair, yet also the tangles of my life!

Me & Mom
I love your care, composure, your completeness.
The strength, the power the dignity you reflect.
Your hand’s tenderness in warmth is paramount.
The character you have shown..
...in you moves is mounting at infinite.
I’m proud to owe you, Mom!
Your humble voice makes my pain vanish,
The choices you make,
Decisions you take,
And the courage you bear!

Mom & ME
I love when you smile and cook.
I love the way you look.
For the long journey made in the time travel,
Take me into your arms and let me sleep sound.
Let me be a kid for the moment again sitting in your lap;
Let the ticking time stops right there,
You believe in me beyond horizon.
You’re compassionate being passionate.
You sight off my imperfections.
To teach ME the best has been your only ultimate mission!

For me you are multiple skill sets, handling tasks with perfections. You have managed the time, resources, money, emotions, relationships and ME so well.
You are the best chef, best nutritionist, best beautician, best cheerleader, best teacher, best Human Resource Manager (...perhaps how can we ignore, the charm you carry in the way, you challenge Paa to run at your commands!)

Indeed, YOU been the best mom and perhaps the best woman, ever have influenced ME so much and yet I am competing to be the Best like you!

Love you so much for everything!
~ I'm so glad that I share my DNA with You :)

Your loving Daughter;
Umi :)

the most beautiful bride - MY friend

“You have a heart,
like a crystal moon sparkling all white and pure
with tender words and softspoken

which carries away a woman afterall.”…ref: Pria’s Poem
"I've learned that true friendship continues to grow, Even over the longest distance. "

Going through the marriage invitation card of Nikita, I realized that I was slipping my fingers into the innocence lane of early school days. Those days were full of activities and nuisance. Our friendship story is quite filmy. It’s a friendship which came intact after covering many years in between and with all the technological differences. And I wish today to share our bond-story with my readers.

Those were the days when we studied in the same class and school GREMS, Baroda; Gujarat. Every evening after reaching home from school, I used to rush to her home, to play. We rashly cycled together, n had lots of fun. She also had a younger sister “Choti”, and we pampered her a lot. Sometimes she used to hang up my home on Sundays. We made sure that we had blast playing with dolls and making homes under table.

I still remember, she was one of the cutest kid in our class. "She owed blond hair, with blue eyes and white skin.I always admired her beauty but she never threw any tantrums, which I appreciated the most about her. Also I believe that Nikita’s this nature characteristic credit goes to her mother, who was genuinely warm and so much dedicated to the motherhood, paying interest to each and every detail of her activities of school.

It was after class 5, her family shifted to a different location in the same city and hence she also went to a different school. We lost in touch. In early 90’s there was no good facilities of telephone. And infact we were so young that we hardly had any sense of exchanging the contact address. It’s a very hurting experience to get separate from your very nice friend. I missed her so much but dint had any idea how to contact her.

Soon after two years, my father also got transferred to Guwahati, Assam. I got into a new school. In the beginning it was quite difficult to adjust. And during such hard times I used to sometimes recall the best days of my childhood spent with Nikita.

Slowly I made new friends but forgetting the old was not in my nature. I wasn’t in touch with her but she was there back in my thought when I celebrated or when I was in grief.

In this very young age I did then realize that in life it’s sometimes hard to move on leaving dear people behind but somehow one has to without any choice.
Long after three more years, I was in class 10 . Engrossed in studies and was very well used to that place n friends. One day after school when reached home, it was a normal and a daily routine day until Paa gave me a big envelop saying that it is addressed to me but was at my paa’s office address.

I could not believe that; envelop for me……Who could send it..?
I had no and not even any rough idea.
I opened it with care, and to my surprise it was a greeting card. Strange but it’s not my birthday or not even close to it, so why this greeting card and from whom….?
It stated, Dear Rachana, followed by a sweet friendship quotation and ……..from Nikita Bakshi….!!

I could not believe that..it was my very dear childhood friend Nikita. My mom asked me, and I replied it’s ‘Niki’, mom! Who ‘Niki’? My mom again questioned back….and I started describing all her prompt physical features, like her golden hair, blue eyes…and so on. Yes! Mummy could remember her and even she got amazed.

I indeed appreciated her act that after 4 years, she managed to search my new address and sent me such a beautiful greeting card. Without her this effort, we would have not ever renewed our friendship. I acknowledged her back soon by sending a long had written letter. Sending letters by Post have been the best option. So till my last school days, we kept intouch, and sharing our worlds with letters.

Also this incidence made me believe very strongly that peole whom we love the most are always conneted with our destiny and hence we do manage to meet them anyhow.
After School we enrolled into our respective colleges. And again due to the studies pressure, we were not much frequent in writing letter. But by then, emails and chatting had taken over to support our friendship.

It was the second year of College, when My family decided to go Boroda at some of my relative’s home to spend the vacation. I was super excited as I would have chance to meet Nikita , who lived in the same town. I did not inform her, and thought to surprise her by reaching suddenly.

By then apparently I was supposed to meet her after almost 9 years. But surely the "Time or distance cannot touch the friendship of the heart."

I reached her home and rang the door-bell. To my good luck, it was Nikita, who opened the door. Of coarse I could recognize her for her bright eyes. For a moment I thought she would recognize me but this dint happen. She thought I was some sales-person and soon she replied, “We don’t need anything”. Quickly, I decided to keep my identity and play a bit with her. I replied “I’m not the sales-person; let me come inside the home.” Before she could reply anything again, I literary pushed her a bit, entered the house and took my place on the couch.

She was completely dumb-founded for the moment. Her mom came and started wondering who was I..? Suddenly I found Nikita’s sister coming from the stairs. I chuckled saying “Choti, how are your studies?”
There was a huge confusion. But again to my surprise, Nikita’s mom, somehow recognize me and she stated “It’s Rachana”. Nikita interrupted her mom saying, ahh! You don’t know anything…and when she looked at me again, I was smiling. She stared at me keenly and may be then she felt her mom was somewhere right.
I confirmed, yes it was me her childhood friend….and soon after realizing the fact she jumped at my couch and hugged me.
We instantly became the chatter-box. Because almost a decade was passed, we had so much to share and talk. We were no more kids; we had grown up as young girls. The strange part was that, in our conversation the 9years gap din't not bothered us. We were very comfortable with each other. That was one of our last time we met.
Ever since than again today at least 5 years have passed, but the memories are still so fresh and our friendship is still intact.
This year, on the eve of Valentine’s Day, she got married. Though I could not make it up to my best friend’s wedding, my best wishes are always with her. I recently saw her marriage ceremony photos and found that she is indeed the most beautiful bride and groom of the world. Do click HERE and check to view short-video  her marriage ceremony.
I was happy to see the transformation from a young school girl to much younger and beautiful intelligent girl stepping slowly into the womanhood.
This blog has been dedicated to our bond.

Taare Zameen Par - a Colourful Childhood

a zone to make mistakes..
a state of freedom
a pulse of innocence
a curve of happiness

"Let the Childhood be Carefree and full of Creativity.."

"Taare Zameen Par" is all about this and a lot. A must Movie to watch and go back to our childhood aspirations. When I was watching the movie, instantly I could relate myself to it to many instances.. as more having a keen interest in Painting since childhood.
And surely the realization of the Mighty talent was through the encouragement of Teachers. I still remember how in "GREMS, Baroda".. Madam KARUNA GUPTA asked me to paint in class-II "The Republic Day", in which I guess, she thought I was expert. There has been CHANDRIKA Maam who believed in my potential & gave me lots of opportunities to participate in varied painting competitions. This gave me lots of exposure and confidence in painting. Indeed their presence made it possible to know my aspirations.

It was then in my next school "KV(IOC) Noonmati, Guwahati", when my aspirations somewhere became the inspirations. And it was Dr.A.K.Goswami Sir who not only appreciated my skills of painting but also encouraged me with his magical words. I believe it has been his blessing that I today excel in the field that I always wanted to be. Its not about good or bad but its about the how one follows the heart.

Teachers play an important role and I am glad that I have been blessed by some of the best teachers, who helped me to get connected to my inner soul.
The journey have been great..and the teachers of my school made a difference into my life.
"There is always one moment in childhood when the door opens and lets the future in." - Graham

That moment has been created by my faculties. Check out my colourful world through this link - http://www.freewebs.com/rachanashakyawar/

"Taare Zameen Par" is the movie of the young boy who turns out to be a tiny star in his own creative way inspite of what the world thinks of him. This got possible only with the support and affection of his empathetic teacher. One who helped him in sorting the difficulties and ones again introducing the boy to the lost world of colours, he has been so passionate about.

Three cheers to Eshaan Shanker Loy, who composed awesome music ,which is so much real, breathing and living with true aspirations of child, yet simple to sing.

One movie which reflects the child of Today's World, struggling and fighting against all odds, expectations, competitions and ambitions that are thrown by his parents and rules laid by the society. So I feel, this first movie directed of Aamir Khan deserves 5 stars (*****). He have this knock-out concept of movie with heart-warming performance and the eight year old guy marks himself to complete victory. But in all that The mom role cant be ignored, who have been so calm sweet emotional spirit, which hold the scene with so much sensitivity and care. Each sheded tear made one and all in the hall to cry. Such is the intensity of the aura of the movie which have captured the child's innocent world.

But the only thing that haunts me is why only that boy was given the result to be winner in the end of the story, when it has been promoted, "EVERY CHILD IS SPECIAL". I beleive they should have made few more winners with the main lead boy, so that we could assume that the boy have come struggling all his way to get into the list of NORMAL students, yet being so SPECIAL, with his Mighty Talent. Anyway, its just the thought but the thoughts factory generated by watching this movie is vast than what imagined, a ride into my own childhood, rembering school and teachers, and above all, other one result is the blog dedicated to it. Enjoy this movie..!!
